In the ever-changing landscape of government services, you may often find yourself wondering what benefits you are eligible for.  We have done more than a little research on this particular topic and have found a good place to start the process.  Follow the instructions below and then give us a call so that we can try and help you find the right path.

Three Easy Steps

When facing a disability, moving or retiring, it is a wise to investigate what options for assistance may be available to you based on your needs and wants.  The National Council on Aging (NCOA) sponsors a Benefits Eligibility Checklist. You simply go to this website and enter your:

  • Zip code
  • Monthly income range
  • Age

You will then be presented with a list of potential services available for you, including ones that are very local.

Review Your Benefits and Discuss

Reviewing this list of potential services is a good starting point to launch into a conversation with a knowledgeable elder law and disability planning attorney.  An elder law attorney can help you decide on the pluses and minuses of a particular benefit and whether you meet the criteria for eligibility.  If you live in North Carolina, we may be able to help.  Even if you do not live nearby, we can help you locate an elder law and disability planning attorney where you live or where you are considering moving.

Be Aware of Changes if Moving

If you are eligible for Medicaid or a Waiver Program (The CAP/DA, CAP/C or the Innovations Waiver in North Carolina), moving over state lines can impact your options. We recommend that you consult with a knowledgeable, local elder law and disability planning attorney BEFORE you make your move.  The amount of funding available to you can vary greatly from state to state.  We have observed some people move from the northeast lose half of their hour of attendant care or not qualify for Medicaid at all upon moving to North Carolina.  We have seen others fair much better in North Carolina.

Everyone’s situation is unique and the process can seem confusing. We are here to help you simplify it and receive the most from the benefits you deserve.
